SIGRID SANDSTRÖM

Born in 1970, lives and works in Stockholm and New York.

Sigrid Sandström’s acrylic compositions evoke a fragmented vision of the landscapes of her native Scandinavia. The motifs are abstract, geometric and layered to reflect jagged mountain ranges and seascapes. Sandström describes her interest in "how space—specifically landscape—is understood as a concept, a physical site, and as an emotional experience." Shifting towards sensitive and sensual landscapes, her recent work is characterized by abstraction regarding the experience and construction of spaces. Sandstrom imposes her own definitions of physical and emotional experience through striking color and shapes, unified through her conceptual clarity.
